MEET CRISTINA & PAUL

Cristina Mittermeier

Cristina Mittermeier dedicates her life to creating images that help us understand the urgent need to protect wild places.
Working as a Marine Biologist in the Gulf of California and Yucatan Peninsula, it didn’t take long for her to realize that she could make a more significant impact on how people see the world, and connect to it, through the lens of her camera than through data on spreadsheets.

Today, Mittermeier is a National Geographic Photographer, Co-founder and Vision Lead at the conservation society, SeaLegacy, a Sony Artisan of Imagery, the editor of 25 coffee table books on conservation issues. Mittermeier has worked in more than 100 countries on every continent in the world.

She is the Founder and former President of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP), has been recognized as one of the World’s Top 40 Most Influential Outdoor Photographers and is a sought-after keynote speaker and presenter. Most recently, she was acknowledged, along with her partner Paul Nicklen, as one of National Geographic's 2018 Adventurers of the Year and was named a Women of Impact by National Geographic.
